Foreing and Commonwealth Office:
There have been a series of blasts in a number of sites around Mumbai. Some of these have been in or close to five star hotels in the southern part of the city. Reports suggest as many as 80 dead and up to 250 injured people. We advise all British nationals in the city to stay indoors until local authorities advise that it is safe to go outside.
There is a high threat of terrorism throughout India. Attacks have targeted public places, including places of worship and major festivals such as Diwali. They have also targeted places frequented by expatriates and foreign travellers, most recently in Delhi, Ahmedabad and Bangalore.

Hi Elena
I hope that you have arrived safely in Delhi. I'm really looking forward to reading your blog from the trip. It's a great programme, with some wicked meetings, so I hope that you really enjoy it.
I know that the tragedy that's unfolded in Mumbai must be affecting you all. Try not to worry about it too much BUT be vigilant. I was in Delhi a few years ago, just after the bombings and at the time of the subsequent escalation of the tension with Pakistan. It wasn't easy but, to be honest, like now, it wasn't really any more or less safe. My guess is that ten days ago you weren't thinking about anything like this happening in Mumbai - but these things can happen anywhere nowadays - we just need to be vigilant. One of the good things about being there with the British Council is that you'll get the latest security advice immediately.
Really looking forward to reading your posts and hearing what you make of all that you see.
